Donghae
The coastal city of Donghae is located in the central region of the east coast of Korea in Gangwon-do. It borders Jeongseon county to the west and Gangneung city to the north. In 1980 small settlement of Donghae turned into the port city. Nowadays, the city occupies the total area of 180 sq km. The population of Donghae makes up about 97,500 people. Donghae was recognized as the cleanest and most beautiful coastal city in Korea.
The government of the country invests large amounts of money in the development of the territory. New roads are built here; port facilities are modernized, etc. There are two international sea ports and industrial park in the city.
Tourism is actively developed in Donghae. Sea, mountains and rivers are the valuable tourist resource of the city, which is the second national resort in Korea. Well equipped beach makes it possible to host a few thousand tourists for a season. The beach area and a part of the hotel business belong to the municipality and all the money received from this activity goes to the city budget.
The agreement on the establishment of twin-city relations between the city of Nakhodka and Donghae was signed on 10th December, 1991. Both cities are a perfect example of friendly relations between Russia and the Republic of Korea. A lot of joint events and exchanges of delegations in the fields of the economy, culture, education, tourism and sport were held during the past years. Among delegates were citizens of both cities and, first of all, representatives of young generation. Thanks to the development of bilateral relations in the field of sport such kind of martial art as taekwondo became very popular in Nakhodka. Much attention in the relations between Nakhodka and Donghae is paid to cultural exchanges.
