JILIN

The city of Jilin was founded in 1673. It is located on the Songhua River in northeast China’s Jilin Province. Jilin is the second largest city in Jilin Province, and is the only city in China which has the same name as its province.

Today, it is a large industrial center with chemical plants and paper mills. Food, textile and pharmaceutical sectors as well as manufacturing of plastic, construction materials and domestic electrical equipment are well developed here. Jilin is now the second largest city in the province and one of 30 largest cities in China. Moreover it is one of the most famous scenic and historical cities. With wonderful views of snow-covered mountains and frozen lakes, it is also a great place to spend the winter holidays. It has miles of cross-country ski tracks and some super slopes for downhill skiers.

Another famous tourist attraction in Jilin is Beishan Park, in the northwest of the city. There are two peaks in the park. At their feet three beautiful lakes lie. In summer the lakes are decorated with gorgeous lotus blooms, filling the air far and wide with a pleasant fragrance. And if you’re interested in astronomy, the Meteorite Museum in the city is a good place to go. The city also has many other attractions that are well worth visiting, such as the Dragon Pool Mountain, the Lafashan Forest Park and the Guanma Limestone Caves. Jilin also enjoys a great reputation for its charming winter scenery and exciting ice and snow activities. The most fascinating of the many enchanting winter views in the city is the icy-rimed trees along the banks of the Songhua River, a unique sight that can rarely be seen elsewhere in China.

Jilin maintains international relations with many cities. Twin-city relations, friendship and cooperation tie Jilin and the cities of the USA, Canada, France, Ukraine, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of China.

The agreement on cooperation in the healthcare sphere between Nakhodka and Jilin was signed in 1991. Next year the delegation of doctors from China made a visit to Nakhodka. In 1993 the exchange of delegations of the culture sphere workers took place.

In 1995, a children’s choir from Children’s Music School №1 performed in Jilin within the framework of the International Festival of Twin-Cities. In the same year, the exchange of delegations of doctors took place.
