05.12.2016    Dmitry Medvedev wishes good luck in the implementation of the construction of the 3rd stage of JSC Vostochny Port

Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, attended the exposition of the “Managing Port Company, LLC” and JSC “Vostochny Port” at the exhibition “Transport of Russia”. Prime Minister Medvedev stated that the time for the implementation of the project was ideally chosen as the start up of the third stage of the specialized coal terminal “Vostochny Port”, the largest in Russia, is scheduled for September of 2017.

The volume of Russian coal export shipped through the ports of the Far East since 2012 reflected  a steady increase. This has lead to a growth in demand for additional trans-shipment facilities with open access for various companies.

The decision to increase the capacity of JSC “Vostochny Port” was taken in the fall of 2012. Investment into the third stage of the port has reached the amount of 27 billion rubles. The project is being fully funded with the company’s own financial resources without increasing the financial burden on the federal and regional budgets. 

The Director in charge of the Development and who also interacts with federal authorities of the “Management Port Company, LLC”, Irina Olkhovskaya, informed Prime Minister Medvedev about the implementation of the private investment projects for the construction of the third stage of the largest specialized coal terminal in Russia at JSC “Vostochny Port”, part of the port holding run by the “Management Port Company, LLC”.

“Currently, more than 19 billion rubles out of the 27 billion rubles earmarked for the project have  already been invested. During the summer season, a new berth was commissioned. Despite the geographical proximity of China and Japan, more than 4000 tons of the Russian made steel structures were used for the construction of that berth as a part of the program for import products substitution. The assembly of the specialized coal handling equipment was completed in collaboration with Japanese partners. In addition to the port infrastructure the project includes the construction of two rail parks worth 5 billion rubles at the expense of “Vostochny Port”. This is a very important initiative to synchronize the development of the port and railway infrastructure. We constantly interact with colleagues from the JSC “Russian Railways”.

Irina Olkhovskaya pointed out that with the introduction of the additional capacity, the volume of coal trans-shipment by the stevedoring company would increase to 40 million tons per year. The increased capacity will meet the growing demand of the Asia-Pacific Region (APR) and ensure the growth in the export potential of the Russian coal industry.

The Prime Minister enquired about the number of new work sites upon commissioning of the new coal port capacity.

Irina Olkhovskaya indicated that the project would provide 400-500 additional jobs for the residents of Primorye region.
