15.12.2016    Nakhodka vocal and dance groups gave a concert for Japanese guests on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the sister-city relations establishment

Festive event was held at the hall of the International Marine Club. Honorary guests from Japan were welcome by the Head of Nakhodka Andrey Gorelov. He stressed that the city administration would continue strengthening friendship and cooperation between the cities. The Mayor of Maizuru Ryozo Tatami, in his turn, noted that residents of the two cities had been pioneers in expanding areas for cooperation between Russia and Japan. “The tradition are inherited from generation to generation positively impacting on the development of friendly atmosphere on the territory of Asia-Pacific region in the whole”, - Mr. Ryozo Tatami said.

After the official part of the meeting the concert started. The Russian folk orchestra under the guidance of Aleksandr Bogdanov and ensemble “Primorochka” performed music compositions. Pupils of Children’s Art School №1 presented to the guests the exhibition of drawings on the grounds of Japanese engravings called ukiyo-e. Vocal groups performed famous Russian songs “Katyusha”, “Podmoskovniye vechera”, etc. Artists of the Youth Palace performed dances “Gzhel” and “Khokhloma”. Alevtina Varsegova sang a song in Japanese. The guests from Maizuru expressed their appreciation with a long applause.

Nakhodka and Maizuru became the first sister-cities in the history of Russian-Japanese relations. An agreement on friendship was signed on June, 21, 1961. In 1963, it was decided to hold the annual so called distance sport contest in athletics, which have been held for already 50 years. Thanks to friendly ties between Nakhodka and Maizuru, ground-golf and baseball federations were founded in the city. Athletes and coaches of children’s and sports school “Vodnik”, in their turn, render assistance to sister-city in developing Greaco-Roman wrestling. Last year, at the invitation of Maizuru wrestling club guys from Nakhodka under the guidance of the coach Mikhail Steshakov held joint training sessions and competitions in Japan. In December the same year, Japanese athletes became prize-winners of the Open Graeco-Roman Wrestling Championship of the Nakhodka city district.
